NeuroSpineZürich – An interdisciplinary view of the spine since 1997

Shaped by the founder Prof. Urs Dieter Schmid, still to this day NeuroSpineZürich focuses on the comprehensive interdisciplinary investigation and treatment of all spinal conditions in adults. In 2020 the team was augmented with Prof. Sebastian Weckbach as a partner.

 

The aim of the interdisciplinary approach with insights from neurosurgery and orthopaedics/trauma surgery, rheumatology and physical medicine and rehabilitation is to fully exhaust conservative, i.e. non-surgical, therapies before carrying out surgery. When a conservative treatment or interventional pain therapy is used, it is often possible to avoid an operation. The vast team at NeuroSpineZürich work hand in hand to achieve this.

 

Our referring physicians (many of whom have trusted us for decades) are GPs, rheumatologists, orthopaedic specialists, chiropractors or neurologists. We see all of them as our indispensable “external” partners in this interdisciplinary approach.

Their findings and the treatments they have provided always form the basis for the more in-depth investigation or further treatment of their patients. This prevents duplications. The personal doctor remains a partner in the treatment process and is the first point of contact for the NeuroSpineZürich team and the patient entrusted to our care.
 

If a hospital stay or an operation becomes unavoidable, these interventions will be carried out on an inpatient or outpatient basis at the Hirslanden Klinik Im Park, in the municipal hospital in Waid and Triemli or in See-Spital in Horgen.

The patient and his or her surgeon will choose the hospital together. When making this choice, alongside medical and technical requirements, we also consider geographical, time-related or other individual needs. We operate on all patients personally, sometimes also as a team, and this is irrespective of the insurance class.
